Trots att ytan är stor så bor det endast 11 000 människor och en stor del (mer än hälften) av dem bor i den största orten Sveg. Om dem skulle bo med jämna mellanrum skulle det bli väldigt långt till grannarna. Dem flesta invånaran jobbar med turism och skogsbruk. Folk kommer dit för att åka skidor, vandra och fiska. Under tiden det finns mycket turister i lanskapet så fyller många på sin kassor till exempel restauranger, stuguthyrare och liftföretag.
